Mountaincraft
3-day introduction to mountain walking held in North Wales
Course Price: £200 per person for a 3-day course
This course is similar to our
Hillcraft course, but takes it a step further with a focus on the higher mountains of the U.K. It is designed for people who already keen walkers and want to learn some of the skills that are invaluable to safely crossing the higher and more remote mountains, such as the Snowdon Range, Glyder Fach and Fawr or in the Lake District or Scotland.
The basics of navigation and route planning are refreshed, as well as what equipment you should be carrying, emergency procedures and route planning. On top of this, your instructor will be explaining the various flora and fauna you will see as you walk through the hills, talking through the different weather systems that have an effect on the British Isles. You will be out on the hills every day of your course, and you will have plenty of opportunity to practise your skills as the course progresses.
The course takes place in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. The mountains here cover a wide range of terrain types, from wooded hillsides to exposed and rocky ridges, from rounded hillfort summits to craggy peaks. We can provide a list of accommodation types, from campsites and bunkhouses to 4-star hotels.
Your instructor will be one of our qualified
Mountain Leaders, and you won't even have to take notes as we will email/post information sheets to you after the course. These will contain detailed notes on everything covered on your course so you review them in the future. There will be maximum of a 1:6 instructor/client ratio.
